Failover and Backup for businesses
Two ways to put MergeWiFi cellular behind a business's main internet line: Failover runs the line through our router, and Backup adds a second connection.
When your main line drops, cellular takes over. Keep the cable, fiber or satellite line you have. Add MergeWiFi behind it in one of two ways: run the line through our router, or add us as a second connection.
Two plans, two setups
Both put a MergeWiFi cellular connection behind your main internet line. The difference is where it sits in your network.
Failover
Your main line runs through the MergeWiFi router.
- Your cable, fiber or satellite line plugs into the MergeWiFi router.
- The rest of your network plugs into the router, so everything sits behind it.
- The router watches your main line. When it drops, the router moves your traffic to cellular.
- Three failover tokens a month, each one 24 hours of unlimited internet.
Backup
MergeWiFi is a second, separate connection.
- Plugs into the second WAN port on the router or firewall you already have.
- Or runs as its own line for card readers and point-of-sale.
- Your main line stays where it is. MergeWiFi sits beside it, not in front of it.
How Failover tokens work
- Three every month. Every Failover plan includes three tokens a month. They reset on the 1st.
- 24 hours each. A token gives your business 24 hours of unlimited internet over cellular.
- Used only when needed. A token is used on a day the router carries your traffic over cellular.
- Easy to track. Your partner can see which of this month's tokens you've used, and when.
Which one fits
| Failover | Backup | |
|---|---|---|
| Your main line plugs into | The MergeWiFi router | Your own router or firewall |
| MergeWiFi connects to | Your whole network, through its router | A second WAN port, or your card readers |
| A good fit when | You want one box to watch the line and switch for you | You already run a router or firewall with a second WAN port, or want payments on their own line |
On cellular, it changes carriers too
With one carrier, failover only moves you to another tower on the same network, so when that carrier has a problem you're still down. MergeWiFi moves to a different, healthy carrier on its own, and nobody has to touch anything.
